Advanced Encryption Package 2004

This program was born out of a desire to protect our business files from curious eyes. For weeks we had looking for a comfortable, safe and reliable way to secure our private and business data.

It is apowerful tool which allows you to encrypt, compress and shred files.

Can encrypt your files using all known encryption algorithms: Blowfish 448, CAST 256,  RC2 1024, Diamond 2 2048, Tea 128,  3-Way 96,  Square 128, Skipjack 80,  Serpent 256.

Features

Limitations

The number of files, which can be processed at the same time, depends upon the amount of available memory and the length of file names. Roughly 128 bytes of memory are required per encrypted file int RAM. For example, it is recommended to have 128 MB if you are going to archive million of files. AEP2004 has been tested to handle over 350,000 files.

The size of a ZIP archive, as well as the size of any single file within a ZIP archive, is limited to 4 GB.

Main Screen

1 - it is a files tree. Choose needed files/folders to be encrypted/decrypted/wiped here. You can select whole folders. In this case all files in this folder will be processed automatically
2 - buttons activate work mode.
ENCRYPT - to encrypt files
DECRYPT - to decrypt encrypted files
SFX - to encrypt files into self-extracting executable files
ZIP - to ZIP/UNZIP files
DELETE/SHRED - to delete/wipe files
E-MAIL - to send choosen files via e-mail using your e-mail program

3 - current settings for active work mode (ENCRYPT/DECRYPT/SFX/etc)
4 - file masks for files to be processed and files to be excluded from processing. File masks should be separated by ';' symbol.
For example : you selects several folders in (1) field and then want to encrypt all text and word files (*.txt and *.doc) - you just specify "Include files (mask)" as "*.txt; *.doc".

for example, if you wish to exclude document01.doc, document02.doc, document_secret.doc and similar files, you can specify "Exclude files (mask)" as "document*.doc"

NOTE: If you wish to process all files in selected folders and all selected files, just specify "Include files (mask)" as "*.*" (all files) and keep recommended settings for "Exclude files (mask)" as "*.swp; *.tmp", i.e. all files with .swp and .tmp extension will not be processed.
5 - Press this green START button to begin encrypt/decrypt/zip/wipe files.

Questions and answers

Q: Is AEP2004 Year 2000 compliant ?
A: Yes. AEP2004 uses the 32-bit DOS date format internally, which is able to represent years up to 2100. AEP2004 functionality does not perform date subtractions, so it has no problems in this area.

Q: When I download a .DESX or .BLOW file using Netscape Navigator or Communicator, the file is corrupt, what's wrong?
A: Apache HTTP server erroneously reports the .DESX or .BLOW archive type as text/plain and as a result, Netscape Navigator/Communicator treats the file as plain text. To prevent this happening, those webmasters, who use Apache, should create .htaccess file in each directory which has AEP encrypted files and add the following string to it:

AddType application/x-desx-compressed desx
AddType application/x-blow-compressed blow
If .htaccess already exists, this string should be added to the already existing file.

Q: AEP incorporates a number of different encryption "methods", what are the advantages and disadvantages of using them and which one would you recommend for daily use?

A: DESX128 is fast and reasonable hardshell algorithm. It should used for medium-signifance files.
BLOWFISH448 is slower but is highly strong. It must be used for encrypting important data.
